With all our running around, we really haven't had time to update our blog each day, so this posting will cover what we've did last weekend.

Caves Beach
Last Friday we spent the day at Caves Beach, which is about a 30 minute drive from Aunt Mary's. This beach is well named because of all the caves in the rock face surrounding the beach. However, the only time you can explore the caves is at low tide when the ocean recedes enough allowing you to walk through the caves. The boys loved climbing over the rocks and having a look about through all the chambers. Papa was not so keen on the rocks after he slipped and fell into a tidal pool wearing his regular clothes. We almost had to call the air-sea rescue. ha ha Papa was fine but his little camera was not, it made strange noises as it drowned. We also came across a field trip of school kids at the beach. It looked like they were learning about the surf, caves, and collecting various things off the beach for a school project (seaweed, shells, etc.). What a great school trip that would be.

Wish our school trips were like this
After conquering the caves, it was time to hit the surf again. Each day in the ocean brings more confidence in the boys seeking bigger waves. Eamon swims far out to battle the bigger surf, while the younger boys keep to the medium sized waves. Each of them are quickly becoming experienced boogie boarders riding waves right up onto the beach.

After an action packed day, it was now time to enjoy our picnic over looking the beach.

Picnic at the beach
On Saturday we spent the day getting up and personal with some wild Kangaroo's. Aunt Mary has a secret spot not far from her house where Kangaroos graze in the fields, so we packed up the car, hit the pet store for some Kangaroo food, and off we went. Kieran, Malcolm, and Eamon were keen to get as close to these amazing animals as possible. Sean was a little more reserved always keeping a safe distance. The park is almost the size of a Provincial Park and the kangaroos were everywhere.

Kangaroo fun!

Nice selfie Kieran
What's that food your feeding them?

Kangaroo trainer or Kieran?

No, you can't bring one home mum!

Can you see anything hiding in the grass?

On Sunday we drove up to Newcastle, but the wind was so strong that all the beaches were showing red flags because the surf was way too high to swim. So the boys got to walk over the big new bridge high up on the cliffs above the water and saw some hang-gliders and surf-gliders who seem to like the wind. Aunt Mary then found us the one beach that was sheltered enough for the boys to swim. The only problem was, that it is a dog friendly beach and they shared the swim with many, many dogs. There are so many beautiful beaches in Australia and you don't have to look far to find one.
Lookin good Papa

The next day we came on a two hour electric train ride to Sydney. Stay tuned for our next post on Sydney activities.

  3. Looks like an amazing trip , trip of a lifetime! I loved seeing the kangaroos and kookaburra ...they are so cute. Your Mom said they like meat.... Not the usual bird treats? And those waves are huge....glad your good swimmers and don't take risks. So many great experiences. We are all gathered at Mosers and have enjoyed seeing you half way around the world. See you back in Canada. Lisa Hambleton
